Headmasters Address

Dear Parents

Saturday sport pushes along the car’s odometer for parents, staff and Headmaster.  Recently, I have enjoyed supporting our Volleyball Team at Dandenong, Futsal at Thomastown and will be at Altona for Badminton and Corio for Cricket this weekend.  I know how much the boys enjoy parental support and am reasonably confident they don’t mind SFR in attendance either!

Year 12 2020 commences on Monday with our long-standing program, ‘Headstart’.  It confirms the accuracy of subject selections, prepares for the Christmas break academic workload and allows all the year level to contribute to House aims and goals for 2020.  The tone of our College is set by Year 12 and every single Year 12 student has the responsibility to lead on and about College campuses, at sport and in the community.  Some boys will be appointed to specific leadership roles.  Others will assume leadership in their Tutor Group or by their presence in cross-age sports and activities.

One group will be invited to attend a three day residential camp at Toolangi.  Past College student leaders and senior staff will interact with these young men and prepare them for 2020.  Prior to the invitation, I have sought the views of their peers, met twice with each House Head individually, conducted an open staff meeting and sought confidential staff opinions.  The College Leadership Team considered the list as a formal agenda item, twice.  It is a deliberately detailed and reflective process.  It is our tradition that these roles are not announced until the new year.  2020 will be formed largely by the response to the invitation to service-based leadership extended to our Year 12 boys.

I look forward to welcoming parents across the range of end of year celebrations, presentations and special assemblies.  Our request is that adults match the dress expectations we have of the boys and my colleagues.
