Headmaster's Weekly Address

Dear Parents,

Much energy and time is spent preparing for our students’ return, yet even though many have been ‘at work’ for weeks, we surge into the true new year with the boys’ arrival. The energy and enthusiasm of our lads, returning and new, certainly fills me with excitement and optimism for 2019.

On Heyington Assembly, we congratulated the student leaders for 2019 and gave the boys their opportunity to welcome new staff. Year 12 participated in their Newman College Retreat on Monday evening and Tuesday. The first of the Parent Information Evenings was held at Waterford on Wednesday evening. It commenced as will the Welcome to New Parents at the new ‘SKC time’ of 7.00pm.

The work done across the break at all three academic campuses was extensive. Improved classrooms, well-presented grounds and refurbishment aplenty occurred, for which we recognise and thank our staff and the contractors employed.

Star Camp, supporting families with high-level caring responsibilities for their children was a great success early in the holidays. The Zimele Group, led by Messrs McGirr and Toohey, visited Africa pre-Christmas. Sporting teams trained hard, hosted visitors, toured and were in camp, preparing for the 2019 season. My thanks to all the staff involved in these programs. Cricketers hosted Felsted from the UK and toured to Sydney. Rowers trained hard at Bairnsdale. Swimmers, Divers, Badminton players, Table Tennis players and Volleyball players all trained at school.

If you are new to St Kevin’s, please make the effort to come to the Welcome to New Parents this Friday evening in Smith Hall at Heyington, commencing at 7.00pm. Be you Preparatory, Year 5, Year 7 or any other Year Level, you will be made most welcome by our Parent Associations, Senior Staff and Student Leaders.
