The General Excellence Scholarship recognises boys who demonstrate strong academic achievement, exemplary effort and conduct, and sustained excellence in a chosen field of endeavour. This scholarship is designed for students who are committed to contributing to the broader life of St Kevin’s College - both in the classroom and through active participation and achievement in areas such as sport, music, performing arts or other approved pursuits. This scholarship offers a 40% discount on tuition fees.
- Applications for entry into Year 7 in 2027 are open now, and will close on Thursday 30 April. The Year 7 General Excellence Scholarship will take place on Saturday 9 May at 1.30pm.
- Applications for entry into Year 10 in 2027 are open now, and will close on Thursday 14 May. The Year 10 General Excellence Scholarship will take place on Saturday 23 May at 1.30pm.
Eligibility
Applicants must be students entering:
- Year 7 or Year 10
- Scholarships may only be awarded to students who are permanent residents or citizens of Australia.
Selection criteria
Selection is based on a holistic review of each applicant, including evidence of:
- ACER testing: Applicants are expected to rank within the top 20% of students undertaking approved ACER testing.
- Excellent academic results across the four most recent student reports.
- Outstanding behaviour and effort across the four most recent student reports.
- Demonstrated current achievement to a level of excellence in a field of endeavour applicable to College life (e.g. sport, music, performing arts, debating).
- A character reference, provided in the format requested by the College.
- General SKC Enrolment Criteria apply.
Additional Criteria
Music
Evidence of achievement should be in the form of a Certificate or Exam Report from AMEB indicating attainment level as follows:-
- Year 7 entry: Grade 5 for String instruments
- Year 7 entry: Grade 3 for Wind instruments
- Year 10 entry: Grade 8 for String instruments
- Year 10 entry: Grade 6 for Wind instruments
Sport
Evidence that the applicant is performing at:
- Year 10 entry - at a State or National level (eg SSV Team list) in an APS sport
- Year 7 entry - at an advanced representative level in an APS sport
Successful applicants must commit to playing two sports per year as per College policy.
Application and assessment process
- All applicants are required to undertake ACER testing.
- Only shortlisted applicants will be required to provide a portfolio demonstrating attainment level, commitment and contribution to their chosen field of endeavour.
- Only shortlisted applicants will be invited to the interview stage.
- Unsuccessful applicants will be notified via email in due course.
Scholarship duration and review
The General Excellence Scholarship is intended to apply for the duration of a student’s enrolment at St Kevin’s College, subject to ongoing academic engagement, conduct and overall participation in College life.
- Scholarships are formally reviewed every two years, with consideration given to the student’s continued commitment to academic pursuits and their chosen field of endeavour.
- The scholarship is only available while the student remains an active member of their chosen field (e.g. ongoing involvement in the relevant program/ensemble/team).
Ongoing expectations
Scholarship recipients are expected to uphold the standards of St Kevin’s College in both learning and conduct. Any significant behavioural matters will result in the scholarship being reviewed and may lead to withdrawal.
