St Patrick's Cathedral Choral Scholarship

St Patrick’s Cathedral Choral Scholarships are offered by the Archdiocese of Melbourne in conjunction with St Kevin’s College to support the liturgical music program of St Patrick’s Cathedral. Scholarship holders participate in the musical and spiritual life of the Cathedral and contribute to the musical activities of the College.

The scholarship program provides an opportunity for boys with appropriate musical talent to receive an outstanding Catholic education at St Kevin’s College, alongside exceptional musical training through the Cathedral Choir and the College’s music program.

These scholarships are offered for students entering:

• Year 5

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

• Be Catholic
• Be able to enrol in Year 5 at St Kevin’s College
• Satisfy the normal entrance requirements of the College
• Demonstrate excellent academic results in the four most recent student reports
• Demonstrate excellent behaviour and effort in the four most recent student reports

Application and selection process

Scholarships are awarded based on a combination of musical suitability and overall readiness to meet the expectations of the program. The process includes:

• Application form
• Audition with St Patrick’s Cathedral Choir assessing:
  • Aural skills
  • Performance
  • Music skills
• Review of the applicant’s four most recent reports (academic, behaviour and effort)
• Interview for shortlisted candidates, conducted by Principal delegates
• Applicants must also satisfy the normal entrance requirements of the College

Key dates for Year 5 entry in 2027

Registrations for entry into Year 5, 2027 open in late November 2025 and close Friday 6 March 2026.

• Applications Open: Friday 28 November 2025
• Applications Close: Friday 6 March 2026
• Auditions: Saturday 21 March 2026 (attendance required)

Scholarship duration and review

The Choral Scholarship is intended for the duration of enrolment at St Kevin’s College, subject to ongoing commitment and engagement.

• Scholarships are formally reviewed every two years, with consideration given to attendance and music skills
• The scholarship is only available while the student remains an active member of the St Patrick’s Cathedral Choir

Ongoing expectations

Scholarship recipients are expected to uphold the standards of St Kevin’s College and meet the commitments of the Cathedral Choir program. Any significant behavioural matters will result in the scholarship being reviewed and may lead to withdrawal.

How to apply

1. Confirm eligibility
   Ensure your son is Catholic and applying for entry into Year 5 at St Kevin’s College.
2. Prepare documentation
   Gather the four most recent school reports, demonstrating excellent academic results, behaviour and effort.
3. Submit the application form
   Applications open Friday 28 November 2025 and close Friday 6 March 2026.
4. Attend the audition
   Auditions will be held on Saturday 21 March 2026. Applicants must be available to attend.
5. Interview (if shortlisted)
   Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview with Principal delegates.
